Bulgaria Air received the prestigious “Golden Elephant” award for many years of support to the development of puppetry
The national air carrier Bulgaria Air was awarded with one of the most prestigious awards – “Golden Elephant”, traditionally given for making an exceptional and unreserved contribution to raising the authority of the puppet theatre.
Bulgaria Air has always provided unreserved support to the Bulgarian culture. The company has also contributed to the first private theatre in Bulgaria throughout its 30-year history. Just a few weeks ago, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the theater, Bulgaria Air and the Small Puppet Theater “Elephant” gave as a present both to the English and Bulgarian audiences in London the “Winnie the Pooh” emblematic show – the longest played show. Due to the long-standing support of the company, Small Puppet Theater “Elephant” nominated and awarded the national carrier with the “Golden Elephant” award – which is awarded annually “For exceptional and unreserved contribution to raising the authority of the puppet theatre”, explained PhD. Miroslav Tsvetanov, the theatre director.
The special award was given to Capt. Yanko Georgiev, the CEO of the airline, by the theater management.
“There is no greater award than seeing Bulgarian artists of any art field being applauded around the world. I’m glad that we have the opportunity to contribute to making it happen. And we will continue to do so”, said also Capt. Georgiev.
The previous winners of the “Golden Elephant” award are the poet Valery Petrov, maestro Plamen Kartalov – director of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, the writer Nikolay Valchinov, the National Academy of Theatre and Cinema “Krastyo Sarafov”, the composer Haigashod Agasyan, Slava Racheva, prof. PhD. Stanislav Semerdzhiev – director of the National Academy of Theatre and Cinema, the founders of the First International Theatre Festival “Kuralay” – Astana, and many others.
This year’s awards of the “Small Puppet Theatre Elephant” – the first private puppet theatre in Bulgaria – were very special because they also marked the 30th anniversary of the theatre. Over the years it has managed to win its special position not only in Bulgaria, but also around the world. It has won numerous awards at international festivals and forums in Cuba, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, Belgium, Mexico, Austria, USA, Russia, England and many other countires.
