Bulgaria Air welcomed its seventh modern new aircraft Airbus A220-300
In the early hours of 15 March 2025, the national carrier welcomed its seventh and final new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which arrives directly from Airbus' manufacturing base in Montreal, Canada. It bears the registration LZ-OSL. This is a significant milestone for the airline as it continues its strategy to renew its fleet with modern, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft.
The new A220-300 has been named in honour of the Norwegian capital Oslo, making its first stopover on European soil for refuelling there before arriving at its home base symbolic. In doing so, Bulgaria Air underlines the link between its new aircraft and important destinations in Europe.
The first of the modern and technologically advanced Airbus A220 aircraft arrived in June 2023, and the remaining 6 aircraft landed on Bulgarian soil soon after. All of them bear the names of famous European capitals – LZ-ROM /Rome/, LZ-LON /London/, LZ-PAR /Paris/, LZ-AMS /Amsterdam/, LZ-LIS /Lisbon/, LZ-VIE /Vienna/, and the latest LZ-OSL /Oslo/. The seven additions to the fleet are essential for the operation of scheduled flights on domestic routes and to over 20 international destinations in Europe and the Middle East, part of the Bulgaria Air flight network.
The aircrafts of the Airbus A220 family, which the airline is introducing from 2023, offer passengers a more spacious and quieter cabin, adaptive air conditioning and an advanced lighting system. They also provide more on-board comfort thanks to wider economy seats, larger windows and the largest baggage compartments in their class.
The new LZ-OSL addition will be a staple of the national carrier's fleet, offering passengers exceptional comfort and modern amenities. As a representative of the latest generation of aircraft technology, the Airbus A220-300 contributes to reducing fuel consumption by up to 25%, leading to lower carbon emissions in the atmosphere and sustainable development of the airline.
The photo accompanying the news captures the moment before the first LZ-OSL takes off from the Airbus production base in Montreal, Canada. This marks the beginning of its maiden voyage, which will culminate in its joining the Bulgarian Air fleet, complementing the national carrier's commitment to providing its passengers with the highest quality and comfort in its flights.
