Inthe pilot edition of the The Professionals, which the viewers of the national TV Bulgaria ON AIR saw on Sunday, the host Viktor Dremsizov met with Captain Boyko Ichev from the team of the national carrier. He showed the journalist and the viewers what is hidden in the cockpit and how to operate a plane.
Captain Ichev, who is an extremely experienced pilot and commander of an Embraer 190 from Bulgaria Air's fleet, demonstrated to the cameras how to prepare the aircraft for take-off, as well as the procedure for starting the systems and safety tests. The commander showed most of the navigation aids in the cockpit, explained the role of each knob during the flight, how the air brake of the aircraft is activated and how the pilots orient themselves in the air.
"Training is conducted for each type of aircraft, we go to a simulator where we do 10-12 simulator sessions to familiarise ourselves with the specifics of the particular aircraft," the pilot explained on air in the Bulgaria on Sunday Morning programme.
The pilot said it is the control room staff who manages them and every action with the aircraft has to be coordinated with the controllers, including the request to avoid a cloud or change course. In the simulation centres, during the training of civil aviation pilots for the specific aircraft model, the real cockpit environment is recreated in over 90% and pilots train their reactions in different situations and options for action in emergency procedures.
